Because of the ongoing Dome Fire, this Friday’s first Mariposa County High School home football game (both junior varsity and varsity) will be played on the lower field at the high school.
In addition, it appears that is the plan for all the remaining home games this season.
The MCHS Grizzlies normally play at the Gold Bowl at the fairgrounds.
Officials said the move this week was made because of the national fire team that has established its headquarters for the fire at the fairgrounds.
“We will play all four home games at Grizzly Stadium at the lower field,” said MCHS athletic director Trace DeSandres.
DeSandres confirmed the location is ADA-compliant and will be a satisfactory temporary option.
Fans are encouraged to come early as parking will be limited and some people may have to walk a distance to get the field.
“Parking is going to be kind of tight. At the end of school, there are already so many people there. Some people will leave, but people may have to park (further away),” DeSandres said. “We will make it work.”
DeSandres also added that there will be bleachers, but if attendees want to bring their own chairs, “that’s an option as well.”
It will be Alumni Night at the game against Gustine this Friday. Game time is 7:15 p.m.
