Anyone with a sweet tooth will likely be looking forward to the upcoming play at Mariposa County High School.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, an American classic, will be featured during three performances in the Fiester Auditorium at the high school this month.

“We chose Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for our fall play because we wanted to bring the community a classic story with our own creative spin,” said Kate Hall, the director of the production.

The play will be on Friday, Nov. 13 at 7 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. and will close with a matinee performance on Sunday, Nov. 15 at 2 p.m.

Hall said advanced tickets are the best bargain. Tickets are $8 for kids, students and seniors and $12 for adults. The go up to $10 and $15 if purchased at the door.

“We, unfortunately, had to raise prices due to the rising cost of props, sets and costume materials,” said Hall. “We want to continue to bring quality shows that feature beautiful sets and costumes.”

Tickets can be purchased online at gofan.com or from any cast member. Tickets can also be purchased at the door.

Student actor Sylverster Maccarone plays the character Mrs. Saal, who is Veruca’s mom.

“I enjoy spending time with my cast mates backstage,” said Maccarone about why he is enjoying being part of the play. “I also love getting to play a mom who is too lenient with her daughter but then tells off her husband at the end.”

Maccarone said people should come to the play “because it is fun and exciting, and I’m all in!”

For Phoebe Davis who plays Charlie Bucket, the experience has been positive.

“I love working with everyone in the cast and crew,” said Davis. “They are all so kind and amazing to be around. Their personalities shine through both on and off the stage.”

Davis, too, encourages community members to see the show.

“There is so much talent in this case and we have lots of fun,” said Davis, adding there is a “fun, extra-special surprise” for the audience included in the play.
