CAL FIRE has suspended burn permits in Mariposa and Madera Counties for the season effective June 1, due to higher temperatures, minimal precipitation in the forecast and an increase in recent fire activity.
Chief Chis Trindade made the decision last week, while reminding residents to clear defensible space around their homes.
“Defensible space gives our firefighters the best chance of protecting your home while making it safer to do so,” Trindade said in a statement announcing the decision.
Residents are encouraged to clear all dead or dying vegetation within 100 feet from all structures and to use fire resistant plants and ground cover for landscaping.
Last year burn permits were suspended on May 19, in 2024 on June 17 and June 19 in 2023. Visit readyforwildfire.org for more information.
