Editor,
Full disclosure, I’ve paid very little tax, between the Earned Income Tax Credit and my exceptional refusal of ambition, the federal government has gotten very little from me.
Some may think that disenfranchises my opinion about taxes, but that is a matter of opinion.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’ve worked and paid every due tax since I had my first job that wasn’t under the table like any other good American.
The fact is, we know why this nation is broken, and it’s not teenagers with summer jobs not paying taxes.
It’s the same reason any nation breaks, the needs of its people are not met or being represented or their economic prospects diminish to such a degree they lose hope, they lose allegiance, they lose their belief that they live in a nation that cares about its citizens, that uses the efforts and treasure of its people and of it’s taxation for their sole benefit.
And one would think that logically, individuals would not be able to control an amount of money or influence such that it would usurp the principle of democracy wouldn’t one?
Thus it seems to anyone looking at this situation logically that those who are able to pay more in taxes, should.
There is a concept called velocity of money. It’s the idea that money that is not actively invested or being used for purchases or payments of debt slows the overall velocity of the economy essentially.
For instance, if a billionaire were to set aside $500 million for a family member in their will, that $500 million sits idle, and reduces the percentage of the money supply in circulation until such a time that family member spends it.
A healthy economy is one where most of the wealth is actively being circulated essentially.
What happens when so many think they can buy safety in the future?
When so many think they may purchase destiny?
At least in the old days we could take solace in our pitiful wages with the knowledge that the rich were getting taken to the bank.
The top marginal tax rate is currently 37 percent.
Historically, over the last 100 years, it averaged well over 50 percent.
During World War II it reached over 90 percent.
And I hate to break the bad news but our debt to GDP ratio right now is now 4 percentage points higher than it was at the end of WW II.
If all our government did was provide directly for the welfare of its people, that number actually might work, but that isn’t all our government does is it?
That isn’t the government we have, we rule Oceania, and we have defense and financial synthesis with almost all of Eurasia.
(Russia seems to be holding off for dramatic effect)
Additionally, lately, we seem to be trying to choke China’s oil supply, which as we all know from our nation’s history with Japan, typically leads to peace.
We also have ambitions of occupying the Holy Land. The 10th Crusade if you will.
Somewhat of an ancient throwback but I guess we are just trying anything these days aren’t we?
And here we all are. Just trying to survive among the madness of the people that run the world.
The regular people who do everything that keeps this machine running.
What a shame we aren’t represented. The reverberating irony.
A nation born of rebellion to injustice and corruption from government, succumbs to injustice and corruption, from its own government.
