The Trans Pride flag unfurled on El Capitan in May has gone Hollywood.
The 55 by 35 foot flag was repurposed as the train of a dress worn by environmentalist activist Pattie Gonia on the red carpet at Out100, a tribute to influential LGBTQ figures in Los Angeles on Nov. 21.
SJ Joslin stood beside her. The former Yosemite National Park ranger and wildlife biologist was fired for helping unfurl the flag from El Capitan’s Heart Ledges. Joslin was off-duty during the protest and said NPS violated their First Amendment rights.
Joslin was an Out100 honoree and was recognized for her role in highlighting transgender rights and public lands policy.
“Trans people aren’t going anywhere,” they told the Los Angeles Times. “We will use every opportunity possible to spread the message that our identities are valid, real and nothing to be ashamed of.”
The drag star has been an annual regular during Pride celebrations at the park.
