Vote no on Proposition 45

Editor,

As a long-time resident of Mariposa County, I am deeply concerned with the impact that Proposition 45 would have on our community.

Mariposans rely on the California Environmental Quality Act, California’s environmental Bill of Rights, to be informed about how development will affect our community and environment. Proposition 45 will remove our voice from the process and favor the voice of big business.

Ensuring that we and decision makers are aware of how projects from new roads to data centers or forest clear-cutting will impact our rich biodiversity, beautiful landscapes and way of life must remain protected.

Alarmingly, if Prop 45 is approved by voters, project developers will no longer need to meaningfully analyze and mitigate impacts to imperiled plants and wildlife, or to air and water quality. We may not know about an irreversible impact until it is too late.

The California Environmental Quality Act ensures that we look before we leap and the voices of community members most affected by environmentally damaging projects must not be silenced.

The California Environmental Protection Act protects our voice about what is developed in Mariposa County. Please vote no on Prop 45.
