Varsity baseball to play first league game against Denair

After falling to Hughson on Feb. 25, 8-4, the Mariposa County High School varsity baseball team hosted Sierra at Ed Vegely Field on Feb. 26.

The Grizzlies put on a show, taking the win 14-4.

Almost everyone rostered was a factor as Laten Butler had four hits, three runs and three RBI.

Ben Lingenfelter had two hits, one run and three RBI while Barclae Sandoval had one hit, one run and one RBI.

Brady Arebalo had two runs and one RBI while pitcher Bodie Hagan had two hits, two runs, one run and one stolen base.

James Rogerson had one hit, one run and one RBI.

First baseman Brayden Getty had two hits, two runs, one RBI and one stole base for the Grizzlies.

On Feb. 28, the Grizzlies traveled to Oakhurst to compete against rival Yosemite High School.

They lost 11-1 to the Badgers.

The loss to Yosemite left MCHS with a record of 2-5 during the preseason.

The Grizzlies were back at it on Tuesday, March 4 as they hosted the Denair Coyotes at MCHS for their first league game of the season.

Denair was 1-2-1 before taking on the Grizzlies. Results were not available at press time.

Now that winter sports have wrapped up, the Grizzlies varsity roster is set.

The roster includes Hayden Hill, Reid Allison, Ben Johnson, Barclae Sandoval, Butler, Drew Canter, Getty, Carmine Sandoval, Rogerson, Beau Pokora, Jaden Hunt, Bodie Hagan, Tucker Knauf, Tyson Shelby, Arebalo, Lingenfelter, Alexander Janitz and Ez Weiland.

Next up, league action continues as MCHS will travel to play the Coyotes on their home field on March 6.

Game time is 3:30 p.m.
