Tips that come in handy for everyone

Do you ever have experiences where someone gives you a tip or you read something that is just a complete game changer?

It wasn’t that long ago that someone I know was using super glue to fix something.

In a nutshell, the glue ended up on several surfaces and it was a pain to get it off.

I recently read online that salt is something that can help remove super glue from skin.

I’m definitely keeping that bit of information in my back pocket for next time.

Then I got to thinking about some of the other things I’ve learned over the years from watching videos, hearing stories and reading things online.

Crayons are flammable and will burn like a candle for about an hour.

A lot of different varieties of chips are also flammable and can be used as kindling.

A lot of people probably know this one but eating ginger can help with nausea.

Eating peanut butter can help with hiccups.

Using a wet knife to cut up onions can reduce tears.

Have you ever dropped something that is glass and been worried you haven’t gotten all of the broken pieces off the floor?

Using a piece of bread works extremely well for those stubborn pieces you may have missed.

This one may seem obvious but when I tried it for the first time I was impressed.

When feeling overheated or even a little sick, rubbing an ice cube or running cold water over your pulse points is a quick way to cool down and make the feeling subside.

The inside of your wrist or your neck is probably the easiest.

I’ve also learned a trick to getting rid of headaches that has worked well for me at times.

If you soak your feet in hot water and put an ice pack on the back of your neck at the same time, it can help give some relief.

Maybe not in all cases but it has worked for me in the past.

When it comes to bananas, wrapping the crown where they all come together in cling wrap can make them last longer.

I always thought tomatoes belong in the fridge but storing them outside of the fridge helps keep their texture and flavor.

The same goes for potatoes and onions.

Another thing I’ve learned is that you can tell if batteries are good or not if they bounce.

When you drop them, if they bounce they’re either dead or close to it.

One of the tips I’ve used several times is to see if eggs are still good or if they’ve gone bad.

If you fill a bowl with water and put the eggs in, if they float they’re probably bad. If the eggs sink, they’re still good.

A hack I’ve seen several times but I always seem to forget about is that if you take an empty toilet paper roll and slice it down one side, you can put it around a roll of wrapping paper to keep the wrapping paper from unrolling.

If you like iced coffee, you can fill up an ice cube tray with the coffee and then pour the cream over the coffee ice cubes.

It saves the coffee from being watered down when regular water ice cubes melt.

Laying a wooden utensil across a boiling pot will keep the water from boiling over.

One hack I’ve used several times is rubbing cracked walnuts over furniture nicks and scratches. It really works.

Another hack I’ve seen that I haven’t personally used but I’m sure comes in handy for many parents is placing a pool noodle under a fitted sheet near the edge of the bed to keep kids from rolling off.

Apparently ketchup can be used to clean copper.

Muffin tins are great for serving condiments as well as keeping things sorted like Legos and different parts when you’re assembling things.

Leftover coffee mixed with water can be a great source of nutrients for some plants.

Painting your keys with fingernail polish is a great way to be able to identify them quickly.

If you have the time and motivation, you can learn to do just about anything yourself if you want to.

Even though there’s a lot of garbage on the internet, there is also a lot of useful information that has opened the door for opportunities and accessibility.

There was a time when I needed to replace a rear view mirror on my car because sometimes garbage cans come out of nowhere but that’s a story for another day.

Replacing the mirror was going to cost me a few hundred dollars but I decided to order the mirror myself.

By watching a video online I was able to replace the mirror on my own and I only spent about $60 on the mirror.

I read a story a few years ago where a woman was going through some turmoil in her life.

She had several kids and nowhere to live. This woman took it upon herself to slowly buy supplies as she could afford them and by watching videos and doing research online, she and her family built an entire house from the ground up.

It was truly inspiring to see that with drive and motivation, people are capable of so many things.

What kind of tips/hacks have you learned that have helped you in life?

Is there anything you’ve learned or accomplished that you’re extremely proud of?
