Editor,
Let me introduce myself. I am Emmett J. Nielsen. I am 12 years old and a member of Triangle 4-H Club.
In my club, I am starting my second year as the club treasurer, I’m a junior leader of the swine project and I’m member of the newly formed Volunteer Management Committee. Besides 4-H, I am active with several sports including being a member of the Mariposa Grizzlies Trap team.
This will be my fourth year showing market hogs, but it is my first year not showing a market hog that was not from one of my breeding pigs.
This year was a rough year. Both of my female pigs were bred to have babies for the Mariposa County Fair, but neither one had a litter. So I purchased a pig from a breeder from Hanford.
I named her Loya after my breeder and she is a great pig.
It has been a great learning experience working with the breeder and learning how to improve Loya as she grows into a market hog for show. He has also been helping me improve my vaccination plan for my breeding female pigs.
Because Loya is not from one of my own female pigs, I have spent a lot of time building a bond with her so she will be great to show. I would like to invite you to the Mariposa County Fair Market Hog show on Friday, Sept. 4, at 5:30 p.m.
If you are interested in supporting my market hog project, the Mariposa County Fair Junior Livestock Auction will be on Sunday, Sept. 6, at 2 p.m.
The funds raised from the sale of my market hog will go back into my breeding project. I plan to use the money purchase a Duroc gilt and possibly a replacement for my oldest sow.
If you would like to follow me and my breeding project, you can follow me at www.facebook.com/EjsFarm or www.instagram.com/ejs_ nielsen_ farm/
Thank you for taking your time to read my letter.
Respectfully
Emmett J. Nielsen
