Sierra Foothill Charter School students had took a special trip to Raw Roots Farms earlier this month.

Seventh and eighth graders had a blast visiting the farm, which is home to over 200 chickens of all kinds.

Students learned about different breeds—like the escape-loving Rhode Island Reds—and met the farm’s Great Pyrenees dogs who protect the flock from predators.

The group talked about selective breeding, explored the open coop and of course enjoyed the highlight of the day: smashing pumpkins and feeding them to the chickens.

SFCS thanked Lauren and Andrew Glikin for welcoming thestudents and sharing their knowledge.

What an inspiring day of farm fun and learning.
