The Southern League golf teams competed once again last week, this time at Rancho Del Rey Golf Course on April 3.

The Grizzlies teed off with Stone Ridge Christian, Denair and Waterford for their second league meet of the season in Atwater.

Denair took first place with 262 followed by Waterford in second with 263.

Stone Ridge Christian placed third at 299 and MCHS placed fourth with 300.

We lost by one stroke to Stone Ridge,” said coach Jenna Jones.

Each course is different, with Rancho Del Rey having many sections of water.

The water hazards really took a toll on the players,” Jones explained.

But they kept their spirits up as they played.

Kimo Verceles and Konnor Lobaugh continue to be a force for the Grizzlies.

Both had some really great drives,” the coach said.

Tanner Loftis had some great fairway shots and Brandon Naranjo had some great chips, even when he was chased by a goose on Hole 8.

Lobaugh led the scoring again with a low of 54.

Naranjo shot a 59 while Verceles and Loftis both shot a 61.

Wilde Ketron came in with a 65 and Zander Standen finished with a 70.

Next up, the Grizzlies will recognize seniors Verceles and Reese Evans on April 10 at River Creek Golf Course in Awhanee.

Senior recognition will take place at 12:45 p.m. and the teams will tee off at 1 p.m.
