No matter what age, sport, league or location, the playoffs are one of the most exciting times in sports and every team’s goal is to win it all.

The Mariposa County High School varsity baseball team finished out the regular season on a high note but were eliminated in the playoffs by the Summerville Bears on May 6.

The Grizzlies fell to the Bears with a final score of 20-10.

The boys actually played well, Summerville was just hitting the ball,” said coach Josh Collins.

We started really good, scored two in the first, two in the second and then Summerville went on a hit fest and put up seven.

Even with the loss, MCHS put up a fight as players contributed across the score sheet.

I’m proud because they hung around continued to grind,” Collins said.

At the top of the sixth it was 14-6 and we got it up to 10. We never felt like we were out of it.

Reid Allison had two hits, two runs, two RBI and a double while Ben Johnson had one hit and one run.

Barclae Sandoval had one hit and one run while Laten Butler had one hit and two runs.

Brayden Getty was a factor with one run, one hit and two RBI.

Carmine Sandoval continued to be a contributor with one run, one hit, two RBI and a double.

Ben Lingenfelter had one hit and two runs for the Grizzlies.

It took a whole team effort,” continued Collins.

They could’ve been down and out but for them to stay engaged and not give up is a testament to our program.

The numbers don’t always explain the game.

We weren’t out of that game by any means,” Collins said.

As a whole they played well and I’m really proud of our seniors.

The loss to Summerville ended the season for the Grizzlies.

MCHS finished the season with a record of 11-3 in league.

We’ll take a break and rest up,” Collins said.

Some are going on to football and some have expressed a desire to keep working, especially with pitching.

The improvement and growth within this team can’t be ignored.

You look at this team two months ago versus now — just to see the bond and how they’ve grown is truly special,” Collins said.

I have to give credit to all of them.
