Runners have success as Sections, divisionals next

The Southern Athletic League Track and Field finals took place last week on May 7 at Waterford High School.

The Grizzlies from Mariposa County High School took the opportunity to recognize their seniors.

The seniors this season are Tristan Delgado, Dominik Moll, Elias Gutierrez, Owen Arnold, Keegan Rieg, Enea Cinerari, Emelia Williams, Cali DelGrego, Karina Jacobo and Faith Lura.

For the mens varsity, Denair came in first with 175, Waterford took second with 139 and Le Grand placed third with 72.

Delhi came in fourth with 60 and MCHS took fifth with 52 while Modesto Christian came in sixth with 20 points.

In the mens JV category, Denair placed first again with 174 and MCHS took second with 50. Gustine came in third with 47 while Waterford took fourth with 24. Le Grand came in fifth with eight points.

For the women’s varsity, Waterford took first place with 156, Delhi came in second with 120 and Denair placed third with 80.

MCHS took fourth with 69 while Le Grand came in fifth with 60 and Gustine placed sixth with five.

MCHS highlights for mens varsity

Rusty Bull took second place in the mens varsity 400 meter with a personal best time of 54.22.

Enea Cinerari placed fifth in the mens varsity 1600 meter with a personal record time of 5:21.41.

The mens varsity 4×100 meter relay team consisiting of Jeremiah Jackson, Nathiah DelGrego, Connor Filgas and Joseph Walker took fifth place with a personal best time of 47.84.

In second place in the mens varsity 4×800 meter relay, with a personal record time of 9:50.47 were Owen Arnold, Cinerari, Daniel Specht and Keegan Rieg.

Eamon Fluharty hit a new personal best in the mens varsity shot put as he placed second with 40’5”.

Jackson took third in the mens varsity high jump with a personal best of 5’6”.

In the mens varsity pole vault, Bull took second place with another personal best of 9’0” and Walker placed fifth with a personal record of 8’0”.

MCHS highlights for mens JV

Guido Hernandez took second place in the mens JV 800 meter with a personal record time of 2:36.27.

Jazion Adkins placed fourth with a season record of 2:51.09.

Adkins took second with another personal best in the mens JV 1600 meter with a time of 6:02.60.

Jameson Fournier placed third in the mens JV 110 meter hurdles with a personal best of 22.65.

Fournier placed third in the mens JV 300 meter hurdles with a personal record time of 58.42.

In the mens JV 4×100 meter relay, Alejandro Alvarado, Brian Zamora, Fournier and Hernandez took first place with a personal best time of 55.27.

Adkins, Fournier, Alvarado and Hernandez took second in the mens JV 4×400 meter relay with another personal record of 4:27.28.

Highlights for womens varsity

Emelia Williams took first place in the womens varsity 100 meter with a personal best time of 13.24.

Juniper Helling placed third with a time of 13.54.

In the womens varsity 200 meter, Williams hit a personal best of 27.19 for first place.

Helling placed first in the womens varsity 400 meter with 1:03.36.

Alison Wolf took fourth in the womens varsity 300 meter hurdles with a personal record of 58.61.

The Grizzlies cleaned up in the relay portion of the meet.

In the womens varsity 4×100 meter relay, Helling, Wolf, Tania Marquez and Williams took first with a personal best time of 53.85.

Helling, Marquez, Dana Munoz and Williams took first place in the womens varsity 4×400 meter relay with a personal record of 4:25.96.

Nailea Alvarado, Cali DelGrego, Brittany Vargas and Arliana Coy took second in the womens varsity 4×800 meter relay with a personal best time of 13.19.74.

MCHS competed in the CIF preliminaries (divisionals) on May 14. Results were not available at press time.
