A loss doesn’t necessarily mean there aren’t positive outcomes as the Mariposa County High School Grizzlies softball program continues to put in the work during the preseason.
The MCHS varsity team traveled to Chowchilla to take the field against the Tribe on Feb. 28.
The Grizzlies played hard but Chowchilla took the win 12-2.
Four players on the roster had hits for the Grizzlies including Tylie Allison, Heely Patterson, Hailey Hatcher and Taylor Krull.
Allison and Patterson scored for the Grizzlies off of RBI from Hatcher and Krull.
On March 4, the Grizzlies were back it at MCHS where they hosted the Hilmar Yellowjackets.
JV lost 12-9, while varsity came up short 16-6.
There were hits across the board for MCHS.
Jazmyne Lilley had one hit and one run while Grace Beery had one hit.
Gillian Pioske had one run and one RBI.
Krull recorded one hit, one run, one RBI and a double, while Patterson posted two hits, one run and a double.
Kallie Wass had two hits, one RBI and a double.
Alexa Morrow had two hits, two runs, a double and a triple.
Kylee Hutchings was a factor as well with three hits, one RBI and a double.
After the loss to Hilmar, the Grizzlies held an overall record of 1-3.
Both the JV and varsity teams were scheduled to host Summerville at MCHS on March 5.
The games were canceled due to the weather.
The Grizzlies had one preseason game remaining against Livingston on March 11 at MCHS.

League action began for the Grizzlies against the Coyotes at Denair on March 12.

Next up, league play continues as the Grizzlies host the Hawks from Delhi on March 14.
It will be varsity only at 4 p.m.
