After being closed for several weeks, the new play structures at the Mariposa County Park are nearing completion.
“We are so excited about this project,” said Lexie Verdugo, Mariposa County Parks and Recreation Manager.
After years and years of use, the old play structures were in dire need of replacement.
“The playground renovation project was put out to bid and we received proposals from three different playground contractors,” Verdugo explained.
“Our goal was to choose equipment that preserved the spirit of the original playground while also introducing fresh, engaging elements for children to enjoy.”
The new structure is somewhat similar to the old setup but there will be new aspects to discover.
“Ultimately, we selected the setup that best balances familiar features with exciting new play opportunities, ensuring a fun space for a wide range of ages and abilities,” said Verdugo.
“The new playground will provide a fun, safe and engaging space for children and families to gather, play and connect.”
The playground will benefit the youth of the community in more than just physical play.
“By incorporating updated equipment and modern play features, the playground encourages physical activity, social interaction and imaginative play, all of which are important for childhood development,” continued Verdugo.
“It also enhances the overall park experience, making it a more welcoming destination for community members of all ages and encouraging more outdoor recreation and family time.”
Installation of the new playground is anticipated to be complete around May 16.
“This time line is dependent on the contractors staying on schedule and the successful completion of the final third-party inspection to ensure everything meets safety standards before opening to the public,” Verdugo said.
With the summer season in full swing, Parks and Rec is always looking for ways to benefit the community.
“Next on the list is the installation of a new swing set to compliment the updated playground,” Verdugo explained.
“The new swing set will have a larger footprint than the previous one and will include infant seats to better serve families with young children.”
