For generations, 4-H has given young people opportunities to learn by doing, discover new interests, build confidence and become active members of their communities.
This October, Mariposa County 4-H invites local families to help kick off National 4-H Week with an afternoon of fun, activities and a chance to discover everything 4-H has to offer.
The Mariposa County 4-H National 4-H Week Kickoff & Recruitment Day will be held Saturday, Oct. 3, from noon to 3 p.m. at the old Frost Shop parking lot. The event is open to families interested in learning more about 4-H and the many opportunities available to youth ages 5 to 19.
Visitors can enjoy root beer floats, games and fun activities while meeting local 4-H members and volunteers. Families can also learn how to register for 4-H, explore local clubs and discover the variety of projects available to young people.
More than animals and agriculture
While livestock and agriculture remain an important part of 4-H, the program offers young people opportunities to explore a much wider range of interests. Through hands-on projects and activities, members can develop practical skills, discover new passions, practice leadership, and connect with other youth in their community.
National 4-H Council describes its approach as preparing young people to be “Beyond Ready” for the future. 4-H programs encourage youth to build skills through hands-on experiences in areas such as agriculture, STEM, healthy living, civic engagement, and leadership.
4-H across Mariposa County
Mariposa County 4-H is made up of five community clubs: Bootjack 49ers 4-H Club, Catheys Valley 4-H Club, Don Pedro Rattlers 4-H Club, Hornitos 4-H Club and Triangle 4-H Club.
Together, these clubs give youth from communities throughout the county opportunities to participate in projects, develop leadership skills, serve their communities and make new friends.
At the Oct. 3 kickoff, families can learn more about the different clubs, explore available projects, meet people already involved in 4-H and find the club that best fits their family.
