The Mariposa Arts Council shared a behind the scenes look of the newest mural at Sierra Foothill Charter School.
Designed by a talented intern, Elizabeth Encoyand and painted alongside teaching artist Clay River, this piece celebrates the incredible wildlife and plants that make Catheys Valley so special.
Even on chilly evenings, the team’s passion shines through every brushstroke.
The owls — so iconic to the landscape — are a reminder of the deep connection shared with the land.
The mural’s central theme — education, art and the landscape — is brought to life through vibrant imagery specific to Catheys Valley.
Barn owls and woodpeckers, longtime residents of the oak woodlands, represent wisdom, learning and resilience.
Around them, the oaks transform across the sharp seasonal changes, their shifting colors reflecting the cycles of learning and renewal that guide the school year.
Students are included in bringing the murals to life as they get to be a part of something much bigger than themselves while leaving their mark at SFCS.
Stay tuned for the final result as the mural is expected to be complete by the end of March.
