The Madera County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) said on Oct. 6 its deputies had investigated a reported threat involving a Minarets High School student on the evening of Monday, Oct. 5.

Following the investigation, MCSO said, deputies determined there was no credible threat to students or the campus.

Out of an abundance of caution authorities planned an increased sheriff’s office presence and additional patrols on and around the Minarets campus.

“We take all reports involving potential threats to our schools seriously,” said an official online. “We appreciate the students, families and school staff who promptly report concerning information.”

School safety is a shared responsibility, MCSO said.

“If you see or hear something concerning, say something.”

Students are encouraged to immediately notify a trusted adult, school administrator or law enforcement of any potential threat.

MCSO said it would continue working closely with Minarets High School and Chawanakee Unified School District to help keep students, staff and the school community safe.
