The members of JNX are shown performing recently and are gearing up for their first out-of-state tour.

JNX, a young rock band from Mariposa, will be celebrating the band’s 10th anniversary on Saturday, April 12 at 7 p.m. at The Grove House. The show is free, for all ages and open to the public.

We’re excited to celebrate 10 years of JNX with the Mariposa community,” said Jonah Dacanay, JNX’s lead guitarist, frontman, songwriter and producer. It’s crazy to look back at our journey so far and see how much we’ve accomplished and grown.

JNX performed for the first time in April 2015 at the Beat Harvest student show to help raise money for music scholarships so Mariposa high school students could take music lessons.

Jonah was 11 years old and his younger brother and drummer Xavier Dacanay was seven years old.

JNX rocked out with KISS’s “Detroit Rock City” for their first gig. The brothers along with their father Roger Dacanay on bass continued giving rock shows, covering rock greats such as Ozzy Osbourne, Guns N’ Roses, Van Halen, Metallica and Foo Fighters.

In the early years, JNX performed for Mariposa’s summer day campers, educated the young campers about music, played at the Beat Harvest student shows, school talent shows and also gave a special rock concert to patients at Valley Children’s Hospital.

JNX has also performed at events for the El Portal community including Spring Fling, performed at the Mariposa Butterfly Festival, Mariposa County Fair, events for Cousin Jack’s Foundation, Ethos Youth Center and Mariposa Safe Families.

In addition, JNX has played in benefit shows to help the Mariposa community that has experienced devastation from fires through the years.

Ten years later, JNX has played in numerous events, festivals and venues including the House of Blues in Anaheim, the Whisky A Go Go in West Hollywood and at the Barbershop Cuts and Cocktails in Las Vegas.

JNX also released their first full length album “Love, Hate, Apocalypse.

JNX is not only celebrating 10 years this month but also kicking off the band’s first out-of-state tour at the Grove House.

During JNX’s upcoming spring tour, the band will be playing in North Hollywood, Tucson, Phoenix, Flagstaff, Las Vegas and will end the tour playing two shows at Tower Porchfest 2025 in Fresno.

This April is such a big month for us — first decade of the band and first out-of-state tour. JNX is also recording new material that we are super proud of,” said Jonah Dacanay.

We are very grateful and thankful for the Mariposa community for supporting us since day one and watching our band grow over the years. Many people from the Mariposa music scene inspired us and helped us grow. Huge shout out and thanks to Ava Burns of The Beat Harvest, Gail Vanderslik of Sounds of Music Studio and Nate Pyle of The Grove House.

In addition to JNX’s spring tour, JNX is currently competing in the Wacken Metal Battle USA, part of an international competition where one independent band in the USA is selected to play at one of the world’s largest festivals, Wacken Open Air 2025, in Germany.

JNX has moved on to the NorCal Finals this May.

Jonah is a 2022 graduate and valedictorian of Mariposa County High School and drummer Xavier is a junior at the high school.

In addition to leading the band, writing and producing JNX’s music, Jonah teaches music lessons in the mountain community and also has produced for other bands in the Central Valley.

Xavier also teaches drum lessons to students of all ages in Mariposa and the mountain community.
