The Mariposa County High School varsity softball team won against Sonora on Feb. 26, 9-5.
This was a turnaround for the Grizzlies after losing to Sonora only days before, 7-0.
“They were really good last time and we had a lot of trouble with hitting,” said coach Penny Long.
“We’ve been working on our hitting and they really came through today.”
MCHS came out on the field ready to go and scored four runs in the first inning.
Sonora tried to get things going as they were able to get one run in the second inning but the Grizzlies scored four more, to make it 8-1 at the end of the second.
It wasn’t until the sixth inning until either team scored again. Sonora hit a groove and scored four runs while the Grizzlies were able to get one.
“I think they battled,” said Long.
“They started off strong and had a little dip with some errors but then they focused and came back.”
The Grizzlies took the win 9-5.
On Feb. 28, MCHS traveled to Chowchilla for more preseason action.
The Grizzlies lost, 12-2, leaving the Grizzlies with a record of 1-2 so far.
“We’re going to be working on some new plays since we haven’t had our whole team here until now,” Long said.
“We’ll continue to work on hitting and placing girls in different positions so everyone knows at least two positions.”
