Over The Garden Fence radio show schedule

The March schedule for the “Over the Garden Fence” radio show on KRYZ, running Wednesdays at 2 p.m. and Saturdays at 5 p.m., is as follows:

Miniatures in Mariposa show

Sierra Artists Gallery will be hosting its annual Miniatures in Mariposa. This exhibition will be open to the public from March 6 to 30 with the reception and awards on March 30 from 1 to 3 p.m.

The gallery is located at the corner of Highway 140 and 6th Street in Mariposa.

AAUW celebrates Women’s History Month

“Womens HerStories: A Celebration of Progress” will take place on Saturday, March 15, from 3 – 5 pm at The Grove House. Short film. Live music with a feminist vibe. Books and tales of pioneering women. Resources about the women’s movement.

Bring a personal “Her- Story” to share during open mic and get excited to win a prize in a competition about trailblazing women. No charge. Food and beverages available. Fundraiser

MCHS Academic Boosters Club is hosting a Yosemite Bug Dinner and Spa fundraiser on Friday, March 21, from 6-8:30 p.m. The spa opens at 3 p.m. One hundred percent of spa pass sales and 10 percent of the proceeds from dinner will to go to support MCHS academic booster programs.

CMWC pancake breakfast

The Chowchilla Mountain Women’s Club is hosting a pancake breakfast on Saturday, March 22 from 8:30 to 11 a.m. There will be sausage and eggs along with the pancakes. Breakfast is free, but donations are appreciated. The club funds the needs of the Ponderosa Basin firehouse and provides scholarships to future firefighters. The location of the breakfast is 5618 Creel Road (the firehouse).

Farm Bureau rib dinner

The Mariposa County Farm Bureau will be having its annual Pork Rib Fundraiser Dinner on March 22 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Stagg Hall (2884 Bear Valley Road, Hornitos). All are invited to enjoy a rib dinner with a side of coleslaw, homemade beans and rolls. Dinner tickets are only $25 and racks of ribs will be sold for $40.

Master Gardeners workshop

“Pots of Possibility: A Container Gardening Workshop” is planned for Saturday, March 29 from 10 a.m. to noon at Darrah Schoolhouse (5991 Darrah Road). The cost is $5. Discover the possibilities for flexible space gardening. Create a beautiful, thriving container garden when a traditional ground garden won’t do. APRIL

Annual Plant and Garden Art Sale

The annual UC Master Gardeners Plant and Garden Art Sale is on Saturday, April 26 from 8 a.m. to noon or until sell out. The sale will take place at the Amigo picnic area at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds. There will be a wide variety of veggies, herbs, native plants, house plants and some flowers. People can also buy mosquito fish for a suggested donation of $5 (bring a bucket or cooler). The sale is cash or check only. Sierra Artists Gallery featured artist

The featured artist for April is Melinda Abeles. Abeles is a pastel artist and beadworker whose work reflects the beauty of nature. See her colorful work this month at Sierra Artists Gallery, located at 6th Street and Highway 140 in downtown Mariposa.

Community shredding event

A shredding event will be held on Saturday, May 17 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the parking lot behind the Mariposa Methodist Church (6th Street and Bullion Street). There is a suggested $7 donation per standard file size box.

Safely shred confidential documents including old timesheets, bank statements, paystubs, utility bills and medical information.

Individuals and businesses are invited. Confidential documents will be destroyed on-site. Services will be provided by Discount Shred.

ONGOING

AA and ALANON meetings

There are various Alcoholics Anonymous and ALANON meetings in Mariposa.

The Mariposa fellowship in Bootjack meets twice a day at noon and 7 p.m. The women’s group meets Wednesday at 6 p.m. and the men meet Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. The 24-hour hotline is (209) 966-3110 and the website is www.aamariposafellowship.org. Zoom meetings are available; see the website for details. A “how it works” AA group meets every Tuesday and Thursday at 10 a.m. at the American Legion Hall at 5117 Bullion Street. The hotline is (209) 966-2518.

There is a Yosemite Park meeting at the chapel on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.

Living with an alcoholic? Join the sister program of Alcoholics Anonymous, ALANON. Meetings are Thursdays at noon at the American Legion Hall. The hotline is (209) 966-2518.

Senior Center residencies

Mariposa County Arts Council and the Mariposa Senior Center are holding two residencies for those 55 years and older.

“Reflective Listening – The Songs That Defined the 20th Century” will be held by Ava Burns on March 17, 24 and 31 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. each session. “Legacies of Color” will be held by Clay River on March 13, 20, 27 and April 3. Mariposa Beekeepers meetings

Mariposa Beekeepers meet every third Monday of the month, March through October. Meetings are held at the Mariposa County Library from 7 to 8 p.m.

Senior Bingo

Come and play Bingo at the Senior Center, 5246 Spriggs Lane the first Friday of the month. Doors open 5 p.m., games at 6:15, kitchen opens at 5. Everyone welcome, 18 or older, and people are asked to arrive before the start of the first game.
