Larry Edward Moon was born in Yates, N.M., on Nov.10, 1942, the second son to C. Odel Moon and Dorothy Marie Hoffman.

He lived outside of Las Vegas, N.M., and died on Jan. 16, 2026, at the age of 83.

He was born at home with a neighbor as a midwife. The family relocated several times, finally settling in Roy, N.M. Larry was a mischievous child. At three years old, he was learning how things worked, something he did throughout his life.

When Larry was 12, he was given a baby raven. It was quite a sight to see Larry driving his father’s small school bus down the road to one of the many jobs he held, with Blackie flying along outside the bus.

Larry’s father worked at Pendleton’s as a mechanic, where Larry got a job at eight years old sweeping the floor. Later, he worked at the movie theater in town. Along with all the jobs he undertook, Larry played every sport in school and played in the school marching band.

In 1961, Larry married Pat (Patsy) Horn at the First Baptist Church in Roy, N.M. Larry and Pat chose to go to California to start their new life together. Their honeymoon was the trip to California as they traveled across the country.

Larry and Pat had three children. Larry loved to sing and listen to music. Pat was also a musician and was the piano player for the family. There are lots of memories around a piano. Their kids all grew up to be musicians.

Although Larry had only a high school diploma, he used his intellect and creativity in jobs way beyond his educational level, including inventing equipment. He was always a conscientious, hard worker and inspired people under him to also work hard.

People say Larry lived his life with a smile and compassion for others. He always asked how they were before he talked about himself. Larry was also known for his cooking, specializing in bread, pizza, and cayenne eggs.

Larry is survived by his wife Pat; his children, Natalie (David), Michael (Dawn) and Melborne; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Odel and Dorothy, and his brother, James.

The family will have a visitation at Roger’s Mortuary in Las Vegas, N.M., on Feb. 4 from 2-4 p.m. The funeral service will be at the First Baptist Church in Roy, N.M., on Feb. 5 at 10:30 a.m. followed by graveside service. Condolences may sent to Pat Moon at 79 CR A30, Las Vegas, NM, 87701.

Memorial contributions may be sent to First Baptist Church, 145 Roosevelt St, Roy, NM 87743.
