It was a tough start to the season for the Mariposa County High School flag football team as they dropped a non-league match-up against Golden Valley.
The Grizzlies lost in a nail-biter at the very end of the game on Monday evening. With 8 seconds left in the game, MCHS was down 28-20. Bailey Costa threw a bomb to Whitney Marcis, who made the catch and scored the touchdown as time was running out.
That made the score 28-26. MCHS went for the two-point conversion but did not make the completion.
The Grizzlies fell just short, losing 28-26.
“Great first game. There were little mistakes that will be easy to correct and improve upon moving forward,” said MCHS coach Tammi Richards.
Richards said Cora Grasso was her player of the game.
“She was everything that we needed, when we needed it on offense and defense. She scored a TD and made some amazing catches, putting us in good field position,” Richards said. “Even one with the sun directly in her eyes the whole time.”
The Grizzlies fell to 0-1 in the young season.
They will travel to Mendota for another non-league tilt on Thursday, Aug. 20 at 6 p.m.
