On Friday, Aug. 15, the Mariposa County Library hosted a graduation ceremony for Tanya Ramsamugh, who took part in the library Literacy Program’s Career Online High School.
The California State Library’s Career Online High School enables adults to earn a high school diploma and career certificate through their local public library.
Ramsamugh completed the program in rapid time, finishing in around 10 months, when it takes many participants 18 months.
At the ceremony, she was honored by Mariposa County Supervisor Jenni Kiser, Literacy Coordinator Cheryl Berg and County Librarian Matt Johnson, each of whom spoke about the importance of perseverance, hard work and education.
“Tanya is such a bright, kind-hearted and optimistic person and it was a joy to see her accomplish this. I think there are big things in store for Tanya,” said Johnson.
“I am grateful to our Literacy Coordinator Cheryl Berg for guiding Tanya through the process. Thanks also goes out to Kiser for attending the event, and to library staff member Christine Knight for assisting with set up and take down of the event.”
