Freckles awaits you

Editor,

Hello, my name is Parker McCleary. I am nine years old and am in fourth grade this school year.

This year is my second as a member of the Don Pedro Rattlers 4-H Club and my second year showing Boer goats at the Mariposa County Fair, but my first year being eligible for market goats and I could not be more excited!

Being in the barns and pastures have taught me a lot about patience and what it means to put hard work and blood, sweat and tears into a project animal. This year, I have raised one market goat that I have come to love.

His name is Freckles because he has freckles all over him. Freckles’ ear tag number is 0110. Freckles has come so far since our beginning together and I am grateful that I have Freckles to take me into the show ring.

Every year, I learn more about being a better showman and also being a better livestock breeder as I have started my breeding herd about two years ago and now have four in my small herd.

The money that I make this year will go toward my breeding program in helping me expand and to grow even more, purchasing new show equipment and possibly buying my market goat for next year.

If you are able, I would love for your to come see Freckles and myself in action in the ring together as we will be doing our market weight classes and showmanship on Saturday, Sept. 5 at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds in the goat barn beginning at 9 a.m.

I would also love to invite you to the Junior Livestock Auction where I will be selling Freckles across the auction block on Sunday, Sept. 6 and you will have a chance to buy Freckles. The auction starts at 2 p.m., followed by the Junior Livestock Buyers Dinner.

If you are unable to bid or buy an animal, another way to show your support to exhibitors is by giving a “bump” to the exhibitor. A bump is an addition to the exhibitor’s fair check that they will receive without you actually purchasing the animal. If you would like to give a bump, please contact Deanna Stickles at (209) 617-9880 or deanna@maeitbehome.com. You can also visit Mae It Be Home in downtown Mariposa.

If you have questions, want to see the fair schedule or become a buyer, please go to mariposafair.com or call the fairgrounds at (209) 966-2432.

Thank you for your time and supporting the 2026 Mariposa County Fair and all if its exhibitors.

I hope to see you there!

Parker McCleary
