Erich Conrad Gehring, 85, of Mariposa, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 26, 2025.

Erich was born on Aug. 11, 1939 in San Francisco, Calif., to Conrad and Clarice Gehring.

Erich was a beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend who will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.

He was known as a quiet, yet strong, man who dedicated his entire life to his family. He loved being outside camping, riding motorcycles, ATVs, hunting, fishing, boating, cooking and traveling.

His passion was woodworking and listening to symphonic music. He joined and served his time in the military as a proud U.S. Marine.

Erich was an accomplished businessman. He started his career with Wells Fargo Bank. He rapidly advanced throughout the organization.

After 25-plus years, he left the bank as their VP of Human Resources. After Wells Fargo, he worked for a couple of different banks throughout Northern California. Before he retired, he worked with the Casey Family Foundation where he worked with young foster kids that needed assistance with their career direction and life in general. Once he retired, he moved himself and his loving wife, Sheelah, to Mariposa, where he volunteered and donated his time to the local church.

Erich had great one liners. Here are a few:

“If you don’t have love, you have nothing at all.”

When you look back, all you get is a stiff neck!

Waste not, want not.

Erich is survived by his wife of 61-1/2 years, Sheelah Lynn Gehring; his two daughters, Katharine Gehring Sykes and Jennifer Mayes (Christian Mayes); grandchildren, Brigitte Mayes (Derek Roberts) and Cory Mayes (Rachel Mayes); great-grandchildren, Brooklyn Roberts, Wylde Roberts and Harper Mayes.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Judith Wright, her son, Peter Wright and grandson, James Wright.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 14 at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Mariposa. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of the following associations: Alzheimer’s Association act.alz.org or the Alopecia Areata Foundation www.naaf.org.

May he rest in peace.
