Edward D. George, 83, passed away Saturday, Nov. 29, 2025, after a short heart illness at St. Agnes Hospital in Fresno.

A resident of

Coarsegold since 1998, Ed was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend whose warmth and dedication touched everyone who knew him.

Born Dec. 6, 1941, Ed grew up in San Francisco and graduated from St. Phillips Elementary School and then Sacred Heart High School in 1959.

Ed devoted 32 years of his life to public service as a firefighter. He began his career with Santa Clara County Fire Department and later joined the San Jose Fire Department, where he rose to the rank of captain.

Known for his steady leadership, integrity and unwavering commitment to service, Ed was deeply respected by colleagues and community members alike.

In retirement, Ed embraced life to the fullest. He was an avid woodworker, golfer and classic car enthusiast. Above all, his greatest joy came from his family.

He and his wife of 42 years, Carol, shared a loving partnership built on devotion and shared purpose. Together, they were active in La Sierra Guild of Valley Children’s Hospital, Kiwanis Club of Oakhurst and the Mountain Road Rattlers.

In addition of volunteering for those organizations, he worked throughout the community wherever he was needed. He found great enjoyment in giving back to the mountain community.

Ed was preceded in death by his father, Edward, and his mother, Frances.

He is survived by his wife, Carol; his sister, Linda Parks; his children, son Kevin George (Tammy) and daughters Nicole Meeker (Kevin), Michele Baughman-Erk (Brian) and Jule Ignagni (Frank).

He cherished 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Ed will be remembered for his generous heart, gentle humor, steadfast service and the countless ways he made life brighter for those around him.

His legacy endures in the family he loved and the community he served with honor.
