Donkey Basketball continues to be one of the most community supported FFA fundraisers in Mariposa.
The event took place on March 4 this year at the Mariposa County Fairgrounds and as always, the community showed up in numbers to fill the stands in support of FFA students.
A tradition for over 50 years, the game is played by the top student ticket sellers and Mariposa County High School staff members.
Participants are required to shoot every basket from atop their donkeys but are allowed to hop off to grab the ball if it is dropped.
This unique set of rules makes for a fast-paced (or slow-paced) game — depending on if the donkeys are willing to work with the riders.
Funds raised from the event help pay for leadership conferences, CDE and LDE team registrations for competitions, FFA meeting functions as well as banquet awards.
This year, 33 students will be traveling to the State FFA Leadership Conference in Ontario on March 21-24.
Mariposa FFA thanked the community and everyone who came out to watch the game.
The group also expressed appreciation for the support of the Mariposa Lions Club.
Without their assistance, the continuation of this long-standing tradition would not be possible.
