Dedication for stamp mill is set for Sept. 5 at Mariposa Museum

Labor Day weekend isn’t only for the Mariposa County Fair.

Along with the weekend celebration in the area, the Mariposa Museum and History Center is also livening things up.

Following the parade at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, there will be an awards ceremony for the parade winners at the museum at 11:30 a.m.

In addition, on Sept. 5 at 12:30 p.m., the Mariposa Museum & History Center will officially dedicate the five stamp mill to Jack Wildt and his family in recognition of their many years of dedication, generosity and unwavering support of the ongoing restoration and preservation of the stamp mill.

The museum will also highlight the completion of the new protective roof structure over the five stamp mill. This important milestone represents another step forward in safeguarding this historic treasure and ensuring it can be enjoyed by future generations.

The new structure will protect the stamp mill from the elements, extending its life while enhancing the experience for visitors who come to learn about Mariposa County’s mining history.

Their commitment has helped ensure this important piece of Mariposa’s history will continue educating and inspiring future generations. Following the dedication ceremony, guests are invited to enjoy a free live stamp mill demonstration, offering a rare opportunity to experience the powerful sights and sounds of one of California’s most iconic pieces of Gold Rush-era mining machinery in operation. A demonstration of the stamp mill, one of the most historic gold-era artifacts in the entire state, will take place after the dedication.

The museum will also have an information booth at the fair in Building B.

There will be games, activities and prizes throughout the day at the museum, located at 5119 Jessie Street in Mariposa.
