Quick action on Monday limited more vegetation burning in the Catheys Valley area.

The Day Fire is the fourth fire reported in that area since the first of June.

On Monday morning, July 20, an emergency dispatch call went out about a fire that had ignited at Highway 140 and Owen Dam Road, which is near the Day Ranch.

Firefighters were quick to respond, including an air tanker and five helicopters. Dispatch traffic indicated the fire was about a third of a mile from a structure.

Eleven engines responded to the incident, along with three water tenders and two hand crews. In total, 105 personnel were dispatched to the blaze.

The fire was reported growing at a moderate rate of speed and forward progress was reported as being stopped at around noon.

CAL FIRE reports indicate 90 acres were burned in the blaze.

On June 1, the Lawn Fire scorched 32 acres in the area.

On June 5, the Waltz Fire burned 1,644 acres north of Highway 140 in a remote area of the county.

On July 8, the Van Fire burned another 1,107 acres in that same region of Mariposa County near Catheys Valley.
