David L. Tucker died peacefully at 5:40 a.m. on July 11, 2026.
He cared deeply for his wife Linda and brother Bob and two accomplished daughters, Elizabeth and Megan, of whom he was so proud.
David left behind nieces Heidi, Katy and Karen and nephew Paul T and their children Zoe, Eli, McKenna, Sam, Amber, Paul K and Thomas along with many, many beloved friends.
David put his masters from Stanford to good use during his long career as a professional civil engineer. He worked for both private industry and government (City Engineer for Merced, County Engineer for Mariposa County), mentored the next generation of engineers and was especially committed to environmentally sound water policy.
David’s hopes were for a more peaceful world and his actions were guided by social justice concerns. He served many years on the Modesto Peace Life Center, the Central Democratic Club, the Stanislaus County Democratic Central Committee and the Merced Sierra Club, to name just a few.
David supported local, national and international causes such as the NAACP, ACLU, UUFSC, Planned Parenthood and Doctors Without Borders. Perhaps his most loved projects included encouraging youth in critical thinking through the Peace Essay Contest and supporting young adults enrollment in the Obama DACA program.
David could often be seen on a street corner with his “NO MORE WAR” sign, or at his desk as treasurer poring over the finances for the organizations he believed in.
In his younger days, David was a fond hiker of the Sierra and Yosemite National Park and the Ansel Adams Wilderness area in particular.
While working in Mariposa he enjoyed his lunch breaks alongside the Merced River.
David lived a long, rich, complicated life. All who wish to honor him are invited to his celebration of life to be held in early November. Details to follow in the Stanislaus Connections, Modesto Peace Life Center website and Facebook.
