Dale Silverman will be honored as the grand marshal of this year’s CoyoteFest.

Shortly after beginning a 30-year career in nonprofit management in Los Angeles, Silverman and her husband discovered Coulterville during a trip along Highway 49.

Captivated by the area, they returned the following the summer of 1980 and purchased property just outside of town.

Coulterville became the family’s weekend home, where they initially camped while building a house at what is now known as Mystic Mountain Ranch.

As a charter member of the Northern Mariposa County History Center (NMCHC), Silverman supported the organization from a distance.

Her family frequently traveled to Coulterville to attend museum events, and they regularly participated in both the Coulterville and Greeley Hill monthly breakfasts, getting to know their neighbors and community members.

Upon retiring from her position as Executive VP of AWFS, a California-based international association in the woodworking industry, Silverman and her husband David moved to Coulterville full-time.

Joining the boards of the NMCHC and the Coulterville Community Club, she took on various volunteer leadership roles and served as a docent at the museum.

She played a key role in integrating the Coyote Howl into the NMCHC, and its transformation into today’s CoyoteFest, the museum’s main annual fundraising event.

She created the History Center’s and the CoyoteFest’s initial websites, served as editor and publisher of the museum’s newsletter, The Banderita, and worked as public relations chair for over 15 years.

Silverman helped conceive and organize the “Museum Alliance,” an association of museums that has been invaluable in building connections.

As chairperson of NMCHC’s grants committee, Silverman has secured multiple grants, including $500,000 from the state of California’s Cultural & Historical Endowment Department for a collections storage building.

Currently, as chairperson of the museum’s building project committee, she is focused on completing this undertaking.

For nearly two decades, Silverman has helped energize the Coulterville Community Club, serving as treasurer, secretary, chair of the organization’s annual holiday dinner and public relations chair.

She also worked to coordinate and integrate the holiday activities of several local nonprofits into what is now referred to as “Christmas in Coulterville.

For a number of years, Silverman represented Mariposa County on the Area on Aging (AAA) Advisory Council, simultaneously serving on the Mariposa County Commission on Aging, representing District Two.

While active in these groups, she created an online resource directory for county seniors and established the Mariposa County Seniors’ Facebook page.

She has also taken on several public relations projects for Mariposa County, including promotion of the John Muir Highway’s inauguration and, more recently, assisting in the placement of a computer kiosk linked to the AAA’s online service directory inside the Gazzolo Building.

Her Facebook pages “Coulterville, CA” and “MC District 2 News & Events” remain important sources of information about local and regional activities.

Silverman has been, and remains, an active and involved volunteer leader in the community.
