Alternate site might open in May

One of the busiest gas stations in Mariposa is closed for construction.

Chase Foothill Petroleum closed its pumps on Monday of this week as the major overhaul of the facility began. It is located near the fairgrounds on Highway 49 South.

The company is planning to open an alternative on Ben Hur Road, which is the site of a former fuel company. But that has not happened as of yet.

Alison Pool, co-owner of the company, said they are hoping to get that site up by May. It will have diesel and regular unleaded gasoline once opened.

The construction project is expected to last several months as underground tanks have to be removed and new tanks are installed. There will be one new underground tank and several above-ground tanks once the facility is reopened.

Bulk fuel deliveries and lubricant services will remain in place. The Oakhurst fuel station will remain open as usual.

“We apologize for the inconvenience,” said Pool. “We hope to see you when we are new and running smoothly.

The office at Chase Foothill Petroleum will remain open during construction.
