If you drive around Mariposa much over the course of a given week, you’ve probably seen Christian Zagorski riding his bicycle through town.

You won’t find many people who are as enthusiastic about bicycling as Zagorski, who often takes his young children with him on rides. The Mariposa County Library staff approached Zagorski not long ago to discuss the possibility of hosting a bicycle event, centered around maintenance, but also about the love of bicycling.

“You talk to Christian for a few minutes and it’s evident how much he loves hopping on a bike,” said Mariposa County Librarian Matt Johnson.

Library officials have continued working with Zagorski to prepare an event for Saturday, Oct. 17. It will be held from noon-2 p.m. at the library, which is located at 4978 10th Street. It is free to attend and no registration is needed.

At the event, there will be stations dedicated to maintenance/repair, the joys of bicycling and local opportunities to do so, and even e-bikes. Participants are invited to bring their own bicycles as there will be opportunity to have a bicycle serviced if the maintenance is reasonable, and there will also be small stations where children can ride through cones.

Representatives from Oakhurst’s Pedal Forward bicycle shop will be on hand providing maintenance demonstrations and Yosemite E-Biking will also be there to discuss e-biking.

“The library is obviously a place where we want to connect people to knowledge and information, and this event is aimed at giving people knowledge about bicycles,” said Johnson. “We are grateful to Christian and all others involved in bringing this forward.”

Johnson also thanked Senior Library Assistant Christine Knight for working closely with Zagorski to plan the event.

“Christine put in a lot of time and thought to this with the event’s partners, and I am grateful for that,” he said. “She wanted a nice event for people of all ages.”
