The Audubon Society website is www.yosemiteaudubon.org/
The presenter during the meeting will be Breanna Martinico, PhD and the program is entitled “American Kestrel research and monitoring in Northern California.”
American Kestrels are declining across much of their North American range and scientists are struggling to understand why.
In order to increase the understanding of local American Kestrel populations, Martinico, of University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources, and multiple partners launched an American Kestrel nest box research and monitoring program in 2023.
In 2024, they began monitoring 132 new and existing nest boxes in Northern California to gather data on nest site selection, habitat use and the interactions between Kestrels and agricultural production.
In 2025, they expanded their research to address questions regarding climate change, provisioning, diet and dispersal.
“American Kestrels are an important natural resource and together we can contribute to their conservation,” said a statement from the group.
