Artie Jane Ball (née Mitchell), of Neosho, Mo., went to dwell in the house of the Lord on July 21, 2026.
She passed away after a brief illness while hospitalized. Her son, Larry, and his wife, Jen, were by her side. She was 78.
Born on April 16, 1948, in Hanford, Calif., to Mark and Lela Mitchell, Artie was the youngest of six children. She attended school in Alpaugh, Calif., and graduated from Alpaugh High School in 1966.
She relocated to Mariposa in 1972, where she raised her two sons, Mark Lindley and Larry Beavers. In 2004 she and her husband, Bobby Ball, moved to Neosho, where they lived out their remaining years.
Artie had a deep and abiding faith in God and found community through her love of Christ. For the past 20 years, she attended the United Methodist Church of Neosho, where she rang bells and enriched the church choir with her beautiful tenor voice.
She was also a true patriot and often expressed how grateful she was to be living in “The Bible Belt,” in the heart of the country she loved.
Artie was always willing to lend a helping hand and saw the good in everyone. She was a loving mother, grandmother and friend who enjoyed cooking, baking and crocheting gifts for her many grandchildren and step-grandchildren. She never forgot a birthday and delighted in sending handmade cards for special occasions.
Artie was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bobby Ball; her parents, Mark and Lela Mitchell; her brother, Roy Shaw; her stepdaughter, Lisa Marie Casner (Ball); her step-granddaughter, Chelsie Stephens; and her “step” stepdaughter, Gina Renee Grant (Ball).
She is survived by her sisters, Helen Shaw Richardson and Ida Shaw Thompson; her brothers, Leon Mitchell and Bernie Shaw; her sons, Mark Lindley and Larry Beavers ( Jen); her stepdaughter, Trina Stephens (Mark); her granddaughter, Holy Alex Beavers; along with numerous beloved cousins, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held in Neosho at a later date.
