The animal control division of the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office has many tasks.
Located on 5012 Fairgrounds Road, the office is responsible for safeguarding the health and safety of animals in the county.
Over time, and much more recently as of late, staff have been working to foster, adopt and rehome animals in the county.
Officer Danielle Dumolt recently explained the process for adopting an animal from animal control and clarified some recent adoption statuses.
A resident had been looking to adopt two dogs from animal control on the condition that they could receive two kennels for the dogs.
“I believe we already have two,” Dumolt said. An individual had stated they ordered one and another called and emailed the division to let them know she had sent a gift from Amazon.
Three animals were in need of new homes, including Frankie (a Chihuahua-Terrier Cross), Finn (a Queensland/Dane Cross) and Ariel (a Husky).
As of last week, Finn and another dog, Clifford, had been adopted. A resident was interested in adopting Frankie, Dumolt said.
She spoke about the adoption process, noting it is a foster-to-adopt contract.
“You get time to try it out.”
The $75 adoption fee includes a spay/neuter appointment, rabies vaccination and license. Once that is complete, the contract is finalized.
More animals are posted throughout the week on the animal control website and Facebook page.
People are asked to call the animal control division at (209) 966-3615, extension 2352, for further questions.
