The Mariposa Museum and History Center is beginning a new chapter in its leadership as Richard Westfall steps into the role of president of the board of directors.
As we welcome Richard to his new position, we also want to recognize and thank Janet Chase-Williams for the many years of leadership she has provided to the museum.
Janet served as the museum’s President from 2023 to 2024 and stepped forward as Interim president at various times from 2024 through 2026. Her willingness to serve when needed provided important continuity and guidance during periods of transition.
Janet has long been part of the Museum family and has generously contributed her time, experience and dedication to supporting our organization and its mission. Her commitment to the community extends well beyond the museum, including her past service as head librarian of the local library.
With generations of family history rooted in Mariposa, Janet also brings a personal connection to the history and community the museum works to preserve.
Although Janet is stepping away from the presidency, she is not stepping away from museum leadership. She will continue serving on the Board of Directors as first vice president, providing valuable experience and continuity as the Museum moves forward.
We are incredibly grateful for her service as president and interim president and for her continued commitment to the museum.
Stepping into the presidency is Richard Westfall, who previously served as the museum’s first vice president. Like Janet, Richard brings deep roots in Mariposa County and a strong interest in preserving our area’s history.
Richard’s commitment to local history extends beyond the museum. He serves on the Mariposa County Historic Sites and Records Preservation Commission and is involved with other historical societies.
His experience and longstanding connection to Mariposa County will be valuable as he works alongside the board of directors, staff, volunteers, members and community partners in his new role.
This leadership transition comes during an exciting and active time at the Mariposa Museum and History Center.
Recent improvements to our historic Five Stamp Mill, expanding educational and research programs, community partnerships and events, and the continued development of our Student Docent Program are just a few examples of the work taking place at the Museum.
While leadership roles change over the years, the museum’s mission remains the same: preserving and sharing Mariposa County’s history for generations to come. That work has always depended on people willing to contribute their time, knowledge and talents to the organization.
We are fortunate to have had Janet’s leadership throughout the past several years and are pleased that she will continue serving as first vice president. We also look forward to working with Richard as he takes on his new role as president.
Please join us in thanking Janet Chase-Williams for her years of service and welcoming Richard Westfall as president of the Mariposa Museum and History Center Board of Directors.
